STEAG puts fast charging station into service
Saarbrücken. STEAG Technischer Service GmbH, a subsidiary of the Essen-based energy company STEAG GmbH and based in the Saarland, has put the first inner-city fast charging station with a charging capacity of 150 kilowatts (kW) into service in Saarbrücken.
In future, users of electric vehicles will be able to charge their cars particularly quickly at 101 105 St. Johanner Strasse. In addition to the fast charging station, which is operated with direct current, two standard charging points with a capacity of 22 kW alternating current are also available. “In this way, we can offer all models of electric vehicles the exact charging capacity they need,” says Christian Breuer, who heads the New Technologies team at STEAG Technischer Service.
Three parking spaces are available for charging electric vehicles. These can be used free of charge for up to 30 minutes after the charging process. After that, customers will be charged 50 euro cents for every quarter of an hour or part thereof. For the charging process itself, customers pay 35 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh) at the normal charging points and 59 cents at the fast charging station.
STEAG charging points meet municipal expansion strategy
STEAG's new charging stations thus flank the strategy of the state capital Saarbrücken to significantly expand the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in the city. "Saarbrücken intends to initially locate and implement 150 charging points as part of the development of an electromobility concept to support the ramp-up of climate-friendly electromobility. STEAG's new rapid charging point makes an important contribution here and we would like to see more such corporate involvement in Saarbrücken," says Christian Bersin, head of the Office for Climate and Environmental Protection in the state capital of Saarbrücken.
Certified green electricity for emission-free mobility
The three charging points are supplied with one hundred percent certified green electricity generated by STEAG itself. “So anyone who recharges here is guaranteed to drive without emissions,” says Gerhard Dewender, Managing Director of STEAG Technischer Service. This combination of energy from renewables and STEAG’s technical expertise in the areas of planning and operation of complex plant technology, intelligent network and storage management has resulted in a powerful product for the environmentally friendly, emission-free mobility of the future. “In this way, we are offering our customers a full-service package from a single source,” says Gerhard Dewender.
With its approach of offering a complete solution from a single source, from planning and installation to plant operation and energy procurement, STEAG is well prepared for the ever-growing importance of electromobility: “By addressing all the issues, right up to grid connection and plant operation, we make life much easier for our customers with regard to charging infrastructure,” Christian Breuer reports from experience. Several municipal and rural utilities in the Saarland have already engaged STEAG to set up their charging infrastructure.
Convincing all-in-one solution
The package solutions from STEAG are also worth considering for companies: “With our product, we are also making a contribution to helping electromobility achieve a breakthrough in commercial use,” says Gerhard Dewender. In addition, it could also be an interesting idea for companies to encourage their employees’ private changeover to e-mobility and also promote employee loyalty and strengthen their own brand as employers by providing charging infrastructure. “There are interesting models for this, which have already proven successful at STEAG locally here.”
