  • STEAG Research Leader Wolfgang Benesch awarded distinction

    VGB PowerTech awards the Guilleaume commemorative coin for outstanding contributions to the collaborative work of power plant operators.

    Professor Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Benesch, Head of the STEAG Group R&D Department and Head of the STEAG Energy Services GmbH Energy Technologies Division has been awarded the Guilleaume commemorative coin by VGB PowerTech e.V. for his outstanding contributions to the collaborative work of power plant operators.

    The international association of companies from the electricity and heat supply industry honoured the 65-year-old, in particular, for his work on the VGB executive board, the VGB main committee, "Fossil-fired power plants" and the VGB Technical Advisory Board. “Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Benesch has provided important insights into the development of power plant technology and has therefore made a significant contribution to driving forward practical change in the energy sector,” says the VGB PowerTech press release.

    Wolfgang Benesch has worked for the STEAG Group since 1984. He was responsible for the Waste Treatment, Plant Construction and Plant and Process Engineering departments before becoming Head of the STEAG Energy Services GmbH Energy Technologies Division in 2002 and Head of the STEAG Group R & D Department in 2007. Originally from Lünen, he is also a board member of STEAG Energy Services India and has been a lecturer at the Chair of Energy Systems and Energy Process Technology at the Ruhr University Bochum since 2009. He was awarded an honorary professorship there in spring 2016.

    Furthermore, Professor Wolfgang Benesch is an active member of a number of professional associations: In addition to various activities within the VGB (he was Chairman of the committee of the Combustion Systems Working Group, Head of the Steam Generation Plants Technical Committee, member of the main committee, 'Fossil-fired Power Plants' and now Chairman of the Technical Advisory Board and Board member). Furthermore, he also works in the EnergyAgency.NRW's Power Plant Technology Network and is a board member of the German Association for Combustion Research.

    The Guilleaume commemorative coin is awarded for providing many years of commendable service to the collaborative work of power plant operators. The award bears the name of Dr. Max Guilleaume, one of the founders of the association.
